Our high school room currently enrols students from Year 7-12. Students in these classes are on life-skills outcomes and we continue to teach literacy and numeracy. We work closely with the primary classes during literacy and numeracy lessons and movement between primary and secondary groups is based on ability.
While our secondary students follow the same subject pathway as students in any other school, their work is adjusted appropriately to allow them to better gain access to the curriculum. Stage 4 students learn AUSLAN and so achieve the requirement of learning a language. Students in Stage 5 may choose from elective options within Arise Christian College and Maitland Christian School or choose to tailor their learning by creating a Personal Interest Project with their Arise teacher’s guidance.
Students can, and do, complete subjects at Maitland Christian School, however the fact that they are in Arise Christian College means they have a reduced number of staff they need to relate to. The teacher in the secondary room can therefore develop a meaningful relationship with each student and support each student in achieving their best.
